Ion Hard Water Conditioner

Having healthy hair when you live in a hard water area is a formidable challenge. The mineral deposits from hard water causes hair to feel rough and tangled. Over time, this can lead to hair breakage and severe hair damage. As a result, when I came across ion’s Hard Water Shampoo and Conditioner, I was desperately intrigued! It claims to do the following:

  • help eliminate mineral build-up from hard water (and well water)
  • reduce dryness, damage, dullness, and discoloration
  • leave hair soft, shiny, and manageable
  • safe for chemically-treated hair
  • safe for daily use

ion’s Hard Water Shampoo has a consistency similar to a gel facial cleanser that is easy to apply. The clean, fresh fragrance is nice but not overpowering. First, I did a quick ACV rinse with a 50:50 ratio of Bragg’s Organic Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother) and distilled water. Then, I applied the Hard Water Shampoo to my wet hair, concentrating the product at the roots. I massaged my scalp for 30 to 60 seconds and then rinsed.

The first time I used this product, I shampooed twice, but I have found a double shampoo is completely unnecessary. The second time, I used a large gob of the shampoo. That, too, was completely unnecessary. This product works well, but a little goes a long way! I would say only a teaspoon or so (max) is needed for medium-length hair. Less for short hair or those with fine strands, and slightly more for long or super-thick hair.

After only one use, I noticed an immediate difference in my hair. The shampoo eliminated about 75% of the tangles in my hair (without any prior detangling) almost on contact! The rest I removed by gently finger detangling.

Next, I applied ion’s Hard Water Conditioner. It has a very thick consistency that I love with the same fragrant scent as the shampoo. I left the Hard Water Conditioner on for a minute or two and then rinsed my hair. As the final step, this conditioner moisturized my hair and left it feeling soft and pliable.

I love that both of these products are 100% vegan and are safe for chemically-treated hair. Considering how well they work, they are a bargain at $13 for a 1-liter bottle of shampoo. My only complaint is that the conditioner is the same price for only 12 fl. oz. I will definitely be buying another bottle of conditioner before the shampoo comes even close to running out! But, considering how amazing ion’s hard water product line is, I don’t really mind. For others, like me, who live in a very hard water area, I can see this quickly becoming one of your staple shampoos and conditioner.
