Sorry I’ve been MIA for the last couple of weeks, but it’s been for good reason! I recently moved and went back to school to get an advanced degree. (I don’t recommend doing both at the same time!) So, I have been busy studying and unpacking … Unpacking and studying … It’s been a vicious cycle. LOL.
I have loads of content to share but, unfortunately, my posts won’t be as frequent as before until I get completely moved in and get a break from my summer term … So, hopefully, in another two to three weeks, I will be back to my normal posting schedule. In the meantime, here is an easy DIY I have been trying to post for the last week-and-a-half … Or, maybe more … Ahem …
Well, for all my fellow coffee lovers, this one is for you! It was inspired by my dad who is an avid java drinker. (Happy Father’s Day, Dad!)
Have you recently splurged on several Costco-sized vats of coffee and now have enough coffee beans to start your own café? Or, maybe you’re a little under the weather and haven’t much felt like making your morning brew. Well, if you have any extra coffee in the house, it’s time to put it to good use. After all, the only thing better than drinking coffee is slathering it on your face! Mhmm.
Suddenly I have a hankering for my beloved Starbucks. One caramel frappe, no whip, affogato style here I come!
- Place 1 cup of ground coffee into a medium-sized bowl.
- You can use any variety. No need to splurge on anything fancy!
- If you travel a lot like many of my family members tend to do, just save the mini coffee packets you get from your hotel suite. My dad gave me several from his most recent extended business trip.
- Since I’m from Seattle, I am quite unapologetically a bit of a coffee snob. (I think my dad is on a Starbucks caffeine drip as we speak!) So, while I would never dream of drinking such inferior “hotel coffee,” it works perfectly for this DIY!
- FYI, I used 5-6 packets of hotel coffee to get a cup.
- Add ½ cup of granulated sugar and ½ cup of brown sugar.
- Mix the dry ingredients until everything is well-combined.
- Transfer the mixture into a large (20-24 oz) jar that comes with a lid.
- To avoid making a mess, just spoon the mixture from the bowl into the jar a little at a time.
- Patience is a virtue!
- Add 1 cup of your fave oil.
- OPTIONAL: ½ tsp of vitamin e oil.
- Vitamin e oil acts as a natural preservative and is also great for the skin.
- OPTIONAL: Add 20-30 drops of essential oil.
- Enjoy your newly created microdermabrasion in a jar!

Any time I miss Seattle, I just open my little café scrub jar. Within seconds, I’m back downtown Seattle, sipping coffee at Pike’s Place, and people watching. And, the fact that it also brightens and gently exfoliates my skin is a plus, too!
