What would you do to grow your hair? Eat super healthy? Take a basketful of vitamins and supplements? Drink eight to ten glasses of water a day? Buy expensive hair products or growth aids? How about a handstand?

What if it would give you an inch of hair growth in only seven days? Ok, maybe not a handstand, but you get the point … Don’t laugh. Inversion therapy has been around for thousands of years.

During an archaeological dig, archaeologists found ancient stone seals from 3000 BC that revealed various yoga poses. Yogis have used inverted poses to rebalance the mind and body from time immemorial. Some research even suggests a history much earlier than 3000 BC.

In 400 BC, Hippocrates, sometimes called the Father of Medicine, used a complicated system of ladders and pulleys to hang his patients’ upside down to relieve back pain and pressure on the spine.

The treatment, which involves inverting the body upside down or at a slightly inverted angle, supposedly relieves tension as the weight of your body naturally “stretches” the spine. Proponents say that it not only helps ease back pain but also slows the aging of the spine. In addition, many claim that it increases circulation, stimulates the brain, enhances glandular system functioning, and relieves pressure on the abdominal organs. Hair aficionados, however, suggest that the same increased circulation that is generated from an inverted position to ease back pain can also accelerate hair growth.

Conditions that Don’t Mix Well with the Inversion Method

  • If you have any of the following conditons, you should avoid inversion COMPLETELY: pregnancy, hernia, low or high blood pressure*, recent stroke, heart or circulatory problems, glaucoma, conjunctivitis (“pink eye”), detached retina, spinal injury, swollen joints, osteoporosis, unhealed fractures or injuries, ear infection, obesity, or are otherwise unhealthy.

* Ladies, be sure to avoid attempting the inversion method during menstruation when your blood flow is already being manipulated physiologically.

Degree of Inversion

  • A common mistake when attempting inversion therapy is inverting at an angle that’s too severe. This especially applies to beginners, who should start out at a very slight angle.
  • In addition to inverting at a slight angle, beginners should also be sure to have someone “spotting” them. Inverting for the first time can cause dizziness, so it’s important to have someone close by to assist you (if necessary).
  • If you have any concerns about attempting the inversion method, or just to be on the safe side, check with your doctor before you begin the inversion method.

I discovered the inversion method for hair growth while searching online for a growth aid. The whole concept of inversion to grow hair seemed completely ridiculous to me at first. In fact, I think I LOLed at the search engine result as soon as it populated. But, something about the title and the introductory video pic made me curious, so I clicked on the link and watched the vid. (You can read the original Hairlista post HERE.) After watching several videos and reading the initial Hairlista post, I decided to do my own research. I was surprised by the number of women who received positive hair growth results. So, starting today, I am officially taking the inversion method 7-day hair growth challenge. What can I say? I’m feeling adventurous! Here’s what you need to know …

The Steps

  1. Massage an oil of your choice (that has been warmed in hot water) onto your scalp. Olive oil is recommended, but you can experiment with any oil you have on hand.
  2. Do a simple inversion for 4 minutes. (Suggested positions: (i) sitting in a chair or on a couch and lowering your head slightly toward your feet as if you are painting your toenails or (ii) standing at the kitchen sink and lowering your head as if you are getting ready to wash your hair.) For more detailed positions, check out this video:

Caution Border Pale PinkIf at anytime during the inversion you feel dizzy,

drowsy/sleepy, or abnormal in ANY way,

SLOWLY move out of the position.
    Caution Border Pale Pink

  3. Let the oil sit on your scalp for at least two hours. Co-wash to remove excess oil (only if necessary).
  4. Repeat EVERY day for ONLY 7 consecutive days (i.e., Sunday to Saturday).
  5. Wait AT LEAST weeks between each attempt. Otherwise, your body gets used to the extra blood flow, and the method won’t work as well, if at all. Or, at worst, you become susceptible to some dangerous health risks. So, only attempt to do this over 7 consecutive days once per month. No more!
  6. Enjoy your new growth!

Additional Tips & Info.

  • IF YOU ARE LESS THAN 18 YEARS OLD, don’t forget to GET YOUR PARENTS’ PERMISSION BEFORE USING THIS HAIR GROWTH METHOD!!!
  • IF YOU HAVE TYPE 1 (STRAIGHT) OR TYPE 2 (WAVY) HAIR: You will likely have to rinse or co-wash the oil out after only 2-3 hours. Avoid using shampoo daily because NO ONE (regardless of ethnicity or hair type) should be shampooing their hair every day. It’s unhealthy and is just too harsh for ALL hair types.
  • IF YOU HAVE TYPE 3 (CURLY) OR TYPE 4 (COILY/KINKY) HAIR: You will likely be able to go several days before needing to rinse or co-wash your hair. Since I have a combination of type 3 & 4 hair, I personally apply an oil of my choice every day for 7 days. I co-wash my hair on day 4. After inverting for 7 days, I assume my normal weekly wash routine of shampooing, conditioning, deep conditioning, and styling my hair on my “wash day.”
  • USE ANY OIL OF YOUR CHOICE. Although you can use any oil of your choice, I would recommend using 100% natural oils (e.g., olive oil, grapeseed oil, castor oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, etc). It’s up to you whether you want to go the extra mile and use organic and/or extra virgin oils. I usually do, but you don’t have to. It’s completely up to you.
  • DO NOT COMPLETELY DOUSE YOUR SCALP WITH OIL. You shouldn’t be using 6 ounces of oil in a week’s time! If you are prone to being heavy handed, use an applicator bottle or a Roots Only bottle. I usually use 4 to 6 ounces of oil in a month’s time, just to give you a barometer of how much oil to use. That equates to about 1 to 1.5 ounces of oil a week. And, I apply daily! Keep in mind, you DO NOT want your scalp drenched, just lightly oiled.
  • MINIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCTS YOU USE on your hair while utilizing this method. You don’t want product build up.
  • DOCUMENT YOUR STARTING LENGTH by measuring your hair from the side, back, and front/crown of your head. You won’t know about your fabulous results unless you measure first!
  • DO NOT OVERUSE THIS METHOD. You can utilize this method a maximum of 1x per month for as long as you want the expedited hair growth. However, not every one will be able to do this. For instance, if you notice any symptoms (i.e., migraines) from doing the inversion method every month, try every other month or once per quarter. Better to be safe than sorry!

FAQs

(Frequently Asked Questions)

  • IS THIS METHOD JUST FOR WOMEN? SOME OF US MEN WANT TO GROW OUT OUR HAIR, TOO!   No, this method IS NOT gender-specific. There’s only one requirement: the desire to grow your hair!
  • DO I NEED TO HAVE A CERTAIN HAIR TYPE TO USE THE INVERSION METHOD?  The inversion method works on all hair types (from type 1 to 4c), regardless of lineage. All ethnicities and hair types welcome!
  • HOW DO I HEAT UP THE OIL?    To heat up any oil for a hot oil treatment, take a mug and fill it about halfway with water. Heat the cup of water in the microwave for 60 seconds or until hot. (I just use my Keurig.) Place an applicator bottle (that contains the oil of your choice) in the mug of hot water. It won’t take more than a minute or two for the oil to heat up. Once the oil is very warm/hot, lightly oil your scalp. But, make sure the oil IS NOT scolding hot.
  • DO I HAVE TO USE OIL? I DON’T WANT TO LOOK LIKE A GREASE BALL! 😯 I did a little experiment, back in October (2013), covering this very topic. Check it out HERE.
  • CAN I USE THIS METHOD IF I’M WEARING A PROTECTIVE STYLE  (I.E., BRAIDS OR TWISTS)?  Absolutely! However, if you DO NOT have full access to your scalp, it may be best to skip the oil altogether. I used the inversion method without massaging my scalp or using oil of any kind. You can see my results HERE
  • WHEN WILL I NOTICE HAIR GROWTH? I WANT RESULTS … NOW! 😡 I usually have measurable results (about 1/4″ give or take) after day 3 or 4. On day 8 (when I measure my hair), it’s a 1/2″ longer (or more) than when I started. If you don’t seem to have any growth after 7 days, perhaps try the method while using a hair growth aid/oil to boost your results.
  • WHY DO I HAVE TO WAIT 3 WEEKS BETWEEN EACH INVERSION?  CAN I USE THE INVERSION METHOD TWICE IN THE SAME MONTH? I WANT LONGER HAIR YESTERDAY! As always, you can do whatever your heart desires. However, it IS NOT recommended. If you overuse the inversion method, your body will adjust to the improved circulation directed toward your scalp, and you will have minimal, if any, growth. Overuse can also make you prone to headaches and weaken you physiologically. The reason the inversion method produces such stellar results is because it localizes blood flow toward your hair follicles. However, as they say, too much of a good thing can be bad. So, don’t overdo it. You’re already getting a month (or two) worth of growth in one week, so don’t be greedy or impatient. It’s not worth putting your health at risk for quadruple hair growth when you’re already getting double or triple doing the inversion method 7 days a week once a month.
  • I MISSED A DAY! AM I TOTALLY SCREWED?  No, as long as you are consistent the remaining days. Consistency is key. If you miss more than a day or two, you might still get results … just not as much or as visible.
  • CAN I ONLY INVERT 1-2 TIMES OVER 7 DAYS FOR ONLY 1 MINUTE? I HAVE A CERTAIN LIFESTYLE TO MAINTAIN!  😎 You can modify the inversion method any way you see fit to suit your hair type and lifestyle/schedule. However, I think it’s important to keep things in perspective. Rules are meant to be followed. If you do not intend to follow the rules, that’s fine, as long as you also modify your expectations. Don’t expect to see gargantuan hair growth if you only intend to follow 1/5 of the guidelines!

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS? DON’T HESITATE TO LEAVE A QUESTION IN THE REPLY BOX BELOW. JUST REMEMBER TO READ AND/OR SEARCH THE COMMENTS BEFORE POSTING YOUR INQUIRY. I MIGHT HAVE ALREADY ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION!  😉

FYI, I will post my results (good or bad) in a week. See you then!

Is it ok if I do it twice a day instead of just once? I don’t use any oil because I don’t really have time to wash my hair every day but I do the method once a day for 5 days for 4 minutes and wash it every 3 days. And also, I currently have hair that’s about an inch past my chin so if I continue with this method, how long would it take to get to my hips? I also don’t really use any heat on it (anymore) because it’s just too short for me to straighten without me burning my neck and I let it air dry after washing.

    • I DON’T RECOMMEND IT. Please read the FAQs above as well as this post for more details. As far as how long it will take your hair to grow, it would be impossible for me to tell anyone that. There are too many factors it hinges on … personal health, water and food consumption, exercise frequency, medications taken, environment, genetics, hair tools used, hair practices etc.

  8. I am keen on trying this method out, but I have a question regarding how long could the oil potentially stay on your scalp. I have a mix between straight and wavy hair(probably more straight than wavy) and was wondering would the strength of the effect, increase if I leave it overnight, given my type of hair? Or should I rinse after approximately 3 hours?

    • If you have a combination of straight and wavy hair, you can either (1) rinse the oil out after 3-4 hours or (2) leave the oil in overnight and rinse out the following morning. It’s a matter of personal preference. Some with wavy hair have left the oil in overnight and rinsed the next day with great success. Others felt it was too oily for their hair type and rinsed after only a few hours. I would say, try both ways and see which you prefer. Just make sure you are not too heavy handed with the oil.

I’m in an area of the world where cowash doesn’t seem to be readily available. Is it ok if I use regular shampoo, just not everyday? (Like every third day?) I haven’t started inversion yet so I’m not sure how greasy it’ll get.

    • Hi, hon. Co-wash just means “conditioner-only wash.” In other words, you only use conditioner to wash your hair. So, just pick your favorite moisturizing conditioner! 😉 If you feel that isn’t enough, then you can follow-up with or simply use a gentle or sulfate-free shampoo.

      • shamamallama

I didn’t know you could do that! Thanks so much, I’ll definitely give that a try! I did my first day of inversion yesterday and just rinsing was not enough. I had to end up shampooing the oil out. Love your blog by the way! Unfortunately, I just read up on how being active would probably make the inversion method useless, and I’m a pretty active gym goer 😦

      • Yes, the method stopped working for me when I started my exercise journey and upped my workouts to 6 days a week … Sigh … 😦

Does it matter if I use oil in my hair only 1-2 times during the seven days I’m donig this? Will the results be (almost) the same?

So if i put oil on my scalp and don’t want to wash it every day…and i apply more oil on top of it…won’t it clogg the pores where the hair grows out and stop the hair growth? I read something like that one week ago..

    • A lot of factors affect the potential for the pores on one’s scalp to be clogged: product buildup, age, genetics, hair type, etc. Even overproduction of sebum itself can clog pores. So, as long as you have a healthy scalp (i.e., keep it clean and free from debris via a consistent wash routine), there is no danger of your pores getting clogged. If you are overly concerned, do a mid-week co-wash to refreshen your scalp.

      • Tony

So i can oil my scalp for e.g. the first 3 days, then wash it and then oil it again for the next 4 days? And can i combine certain oils (e.g. coconut oil, castor oil, Vitamin e oil)?

      • Tony

Thank you so much, people like you make the world a better place! You literally save me, because i got a really really really bad haircut with bangs (btw i never wanted them and i hate bangs) and i have 1 1/2 years left till my hair has to be long and pretty, because i have my prom then.

      • You’re welcome! Glad I could help.

      • Tony

Sorry that i am constantly asking, but i just did massage my scalp with a mix of coconut oil, castor oil and about 7 drops of essential peppermint oil…and i lost about 20-25 strands of hair… Wtf…is that even normal?! I didn’t put much pressure on my scalp while massaging…so why am i losing so much hair? 😥

      • Hi, hon. Healthy hair loses an average of 50-100 strands a day. According to some trichologists, losing up to 150 strands a day is okay. So, I wouldn’t be too concerned unless your hair is shedding more than usual (for you) or coming out in clumps.

      • Tony

Okay huh that calmed me down a little bit 😊 i noticed whenever i am massaging my scalp it doesn’t feel like there’s more blood flowing (it’s not getting warm) and it also doesn’t kind of tickle. Am i doing something wrong?

      • Make sure you are using the pads of your fingers and rubbing gently in a circular motion.

Are you adding oil and doing the inversion mesthod everyday for 7 days? OR Are you adding oil everyday but only do the inversion method once during the 7 days.

And you only do this once per month?

  25. Sal

Can you do the inversion twice a day for 7 days?

  26. Naima

It spunds great and i will give it a try. But why so serious, and children below 18 neeed permission?:-) People do yoga where they have their head down longer, there is hymnastics and acrobats and all yhis and children stand on their hands and do acrobatic things it isnt that dangerous.

    • Because this IS serious Naima. People underage and with certain health conditions are at risk of encountering VERY SEVERE side effects. Even persons who are athletic or healthy may experience rapid heart beat, nausea, or headaches. That’s why I itemized the risks and potential side effects in my blog post above and requested that people read the ENTIRE post. This should NOT be taken lightly.

Those who participate in extreme yoga or gymnastics will not likely receive a benefit from this hair growth method as their bodies are already used to the additional circulation.

  27. Olivia

Is it ok to cowash say on the 3rd or 4th day, or would that get rid of all of your efforts?

  28. misha

i have used this method and its really works for me …i have grow hair 1 inch …

    • Ok but doesnt this seem some sort of taboo…? Like hair naturally grows half an inch per month so if i do this will I get about an inch per month? maybe .75 inch per month?

Is there any evidence that this actually works?

Also what if dont heat the oil and What if i just straight up take coconut oil and massage my scalp doing this method

Also one more question, Is it Okay if I shampoo every other day…like what do you mean by co wash? I dont want my hair oily with all the coconut oil.

      • Sakib, there’s tons of evidence that this method works. I personally documented my experience HERE. Others have done the same. All you have to do is Google before and after results!

Heating up the oil helps to activate and accelerate the scalp massage process. But, if you don’t want to heat up the oil, you can skip that step. The choice is yours.

Co-wash means conditioner-only wash. In other words, washing your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. It’s a gentler alternative cleansing method. Keep in mind, you shouldn’t be dousing your hair in oil. Only use enough to massage your scalp. Please read my blog post above for recommendations based on hair type.

I was wondering if I could do the green house effect method while doing the inversion method?

  32. Jez Edwards

Hair generally grows half an inch per month so if I do the inversion method and get half an inch will I get another half and inch from normal growth or will the inversion method growth be for the entire month?

    • It depends on the person. For me, when I did the inversion method, I gained an average of 0.75″ in a week and an additional 0.25″ the rest of the month. Others gain a full inch or more the first week and receive none the rest of the month. So, there’s no way to know until you try the method. However, in general, if you receive less than an inch of hair growth in the week you do the inversion method, you’ll likely get a small amount of additional growth the remainder of the month. But, this is not always the case.

  33. Hajj

How do you rinse out the oil without using shampoo? Cause I mean, it seems sorta counterproductive if you put oil on your hair and then rinse it out with shampoo, immediately getting all the natural oils washed out of your hair. And besides, using shampoo every day is bad for hair growth. But when I rinse my head with water, it still stays greasy and oily.

    • In my blog post, as well as in the comments sections, I specifically warn AGAINST shampooing everyday. No one, regardless of hair type, should shampoo everyday. I advocate for co-washing (aka conditioner-only washing). If co-washing doesn’t remove the oil, you are using too much. Please read my blog post for additional recommendations based on hair type. I itemize all of the steps above in great detail.

  34. This is amazing. I had never thought like this before that this method can also help in hair growth.

Hair condition is directly related with your general health. The main reasons for hair loss are stress, hormonal disorders, bad eating habits, diseases, drugs, hair dyes, genetic disorders, smoking, etc. Now i’ll do regular yoga to increase the length of my hair.

Thanks a lot for sharing this post 🙂

Example: Every week for 20 minutes.

I just wanted to ask that if i will use it once a week in a month so those 7days everyday i have to wash my hair . So it will not damnage my hair ? If u regulaly wash your hair for a week?

    • You do not need to shampoo your hair every day. In fact, no one should use shampoo that often. Depending on your hair type, you can either leave the oil in, or rinse out with water or conditioner. Please see my itemized recommendations in my blog post above.

    Can I use canola oil?

  38. Lea

Should I have to clean my head everyday with shampoo because of the oil? Because it isn’t good to use shampoo everyday? If I would do it without washing my hair after i used the oil that is terrible.

Dear, I had done this method 1 month ago. For that, I had so much headache in my head because I have migraines and arthritis. But, it really works. My hair grew 1 inch, but now I am really afraid to do this. My hair is breaking, damaged, and rough.

    • If you have too much pain from using this method, please stop IMMEDIATELY! It is better to be safe and healthy than to have long hair. Try a growth aid (i.e., an oil or supplements) instead.

  40. Sindrella

My hair has been stuck at the same length for almost two years now. I used to have no problem with growing my hair and suddenly out of no where it just wont grow. I’ve tried cutting it shorter and starting over and it just grows to the same length and stops. I’ve tried taking vitamins for hair growth and those didn’t help. I only use heat on my hair maybe two times a week and always use a heat protector, I do hot oil treatments with coconut oil etc. I have tried trimming it regularly, not trimming it. I use high quality all natural shampoos, i’ve tried hair masks etc that claim to make your hair grow, literally everything. I do dye my hair but not often. My roots will get over an inch long, but for some reason the actual length will stay the same. What the hell is happening???

    • Hi, hon! I think the two key sticking points are that you (1) use heat on your hair twice a week on hair that is also (2) colored! That’s a lot even for the healthiest heads of hair.

Ages ago, when my hair was relaxed, I used heat on my chemically-treated hair like clock-work once a week, and my hair would never grow past shoulder-length. Even when I wore protective styles, my hair would grow to arm-pit-length and then immediately break back to shoulder length! Also, after coloring my hair a year ago, I realized that my fine strands are just too fragile for ANY chemical service. Whereas one of my sisters can almost blast a bullet through her thick strands before her hair will cry Uncle!

These are the limitations of MY head of hair. It doesn’t like a lot of heat OR chemical treatments. If I want long hair, I have to work around the limitations of my hair to achieve a healthy head of long hair.

In addition, no two heads of hair are alike. So, it’s important that we listen to our hair. While someone else can use heat multiple times a week and grow hair down their back, that tends to be the exception rather than the rule. So, I would give your hair a good trim and significantly reduce the amount of heat you use on your hair! And, perhaps, you may need to reduce all the heat you use on your hair, especially while you continue to color it. Otherwise, you need to accept the fact that your current length is as long as your hair will ever be. After all, you can’t keep doing the same things while expecting a different result. So, it’s time to do something different!

  41. Kate

How do you recommend washing off the oil if used daily? Since washing hair daily is bad, but the oil still needs to be used daily? Thank you.

  42. Harry

Can I do it for 8 days ? I am a 17 year old boy!

    • Hi, Harry! Anyone can utilize the inversion method. The guidelines are outlined extensively in my blog post above. If you choose to ignore them, proceed at your own risk!

  43. Fatima

My hair becomes oily after 2 days if I don’t wash it. Co washing it would mean only using conditioner, it would still feel greasy without proper shampoo. What should I do for washing it?

    • Use shampoo if you feel you absolutely must, but if your hair is dripping with oil, you are using too much. Keep in mind, the purpose is to massage your scalp with oil, not to douse it. If you aren’t heavy-handed, co-washing should be enough. You can even use a clarifying conditioner for some extra added oomph that won’t strip your hair. If that just won’t do, then you may have to resort to utilizing shampoo.Just be careful not to wash too frequently, or you will rob your strands of much-needed nutrients and moisture!

  44. Shadekiel Kassie

How long is your hair now?

  45. Misty

After this method can anyone try oil / shampoo scalp massage in 2 days of a weaks.?

    • I’m not sure if I’m understanding your question. If you are using the inversion method, there is no need for an additional scalp massage (as that is part of the method). Whether you decide to continue giving yourself a scalp massage while not using this method is up to you and your personal preference, but since the inversion method already expedites hair growth, I doubt it will do much more.

  46. Misty

i have remoutive artriaitise! can i try this method?

  47. Rosy

    Hi,thanks for the post.
    I have a question.

can I continue to this method ?

    and one more question.
after this method ,3 weaks can i try oil& shampoo by massaging scalp.?help me pls.

    • If you have multiple health conditions, you should consult your doctor. I’ve itemized the potential side effects above in my blog post. So, use caution and proceed at your own risk.

  48. Useful information. Lucky me I discovered your web site by accident, and I’m surprised why this twist of fate didn’t happened earlier! I bookmarked it.

Hi, I had a car accident approximately 4 months ago and had to undergo two craniotomies. Feeling very well by now but I really miss my long hair T___T. I want to try the inversion method and probably will start next week. Having a question though 🙂 Besides helping my hair to grow longer faster, I also want to thicken it. I heard that castor oil works wonder in this case. Uhmm.. can I use castor oil to massage my scalp thrice every week after I have finished the inversion method? I’ve read in your post that we should not overuse this method (once every month only). So I’m a bit confused whether massaging my scalp with oil (without inverting my head) is considered as overusing the method.

Thanks in advance for your help. 🙂

Hi! I have a doubt. So, if I grow one inch in one week, that makes my hair grow 4 inches in one month?! (Sorry for my bad english, I am portuguese).

    • No worries! No, essentially what the inversion method does is expedite your hair growth. This means that you get the growth you would normally get over 30 days in the course of 7 days. However, for those with slower hair growth rates, it allows you to reach your maximum growth in 1/4 of the time.

Hi I don’t know if you will understand my question but I want to know if you can add castor olive or coconut oil to your hair when you are not doing the inversion method because I want to know if your hair will get used to the oil putting it on every day with braids or with out braids will affect your hair not being able to grow after that or will it grow after that? Thx and can you reply as soon as possible

  55. Terry

Do the people who post the comments ACTUALLY read the article?? Sheeesh. Thumbs up Hair Diary for having so much patience. Mayne!!

Does hair grow from roots by doing this method? My hair is falling from right side of my head.

    • I’m not sure if I understand your question. All hair grows from the root. But, this is an excellent method for promoting growth (and stimulating new growth).

      • Dipali Naik

I mean to say, by doing this method, does hair become dense or just grow?

      • Ah, ok. Now, I understand. No, the inversion method does not change the density of your hair. It is a hair GROWTH method only. If you want to increase the density of your hair, I would suggest starting a castor oil regimen. Massage your scalp 3-4 times a week with castor oil. You should see noticeable results in 1-2 months.

  57. When could I wash my hair after using oil and inverting for a day? Is it a must to wash my hair every day after inverting? That means 7 times a week? And, if I didn’t wash it after inverting, would there be a disadvantage?

    • No, you are not required to wash your hair every day. In fact, I recommend against doing that. If you feel you must, I suggest co-washing instead of shampooing to avoid stripping your hair. Please read my blog post above for specific recommendations for your hair type.

  58. kelsey Allen

is it okay to wash the oil out of your hair every day? I have things to do and I’d hate to go out with oily hair…..

  59. Jo

Do you have to do it at the same time everyday like in the morning or does it not matter.

    • It doesn’t have to be “exact” in terms of every day at 7:00 a.m. But, the more consistent you are, the better your results. For instance, do it every morning when you wake up or every night right before bed.

  60. Jeff

Does bee honey work as an oil for this method ? Sorry for my bad English

    • Honey is a humectant (not an oil), so it would not work the same. Plus, it will leave your hair pretty sticky. I would NOT recommend using honey for this hair growth method.

  61. Irene

How soon will I see results ?

What happens if you do it while on your period? What could be the worst case?

    • Hi, Sally! I’ve listed the potential side effects in my blog post above. But, why would you want to risk your health? Just wait until you are no longer on your cycle.

      • Sally

I unfortunately did it as I had a little bleeding, because I did not know about this restriction then. Should I do anything regarding this now ? Like, for example, visit a doctor?

      • As long as you don’t repeatedly do the inversion method during menses, you should be okay. Chances are you will experience some heightened side effects (i.e., dizziness). Just keep in mind that, in the future, you should avoid using this hair growth method during your period.

    • Sally

Thank you very much for replying so quickly! I only did it on one day so I guess that was not a lot (while on my period).

Hi if i use the inversion method for only one day out the month will i still have results or should i defo do 7 days.. Also i plan to use jamaican black castor oil, coconut oil, and maybe some raw egg on the days i wont be sleeping in it, maybe some other oil like jojoba, avocado and almond oil.. All of it will be mixed but i wont use alot of each oil and egg.. Can you sleep in jcbo or will it go all over the best.. Also ive read that crushing a multi vitamin containing loads of vitamins, biotin, omega 3 fatty acid, folic acid, iron, zinc, magnesium etc is good to stimulate hair growth, what do you think about crushing the tablet to make a paste and dissolving it in warm water/oil and applying to hair roots.. Do you think it will help? Ive been researching alot what can help stimulate hair growth.. Ive also read onion juice is very good for hair growth but stinks, garlic paste, cinnamon, potato juice, nettle, horsetail and aloe vera gel is meant to be good for growing hair too.. I was thinking of making a mixture of all this for the 7day treatment.. Or maybe using a mixture of different treatments on different days.. I.e castor oil, coconut oil one one day, maybe some of the other oils ive mentioned, and on the days i will be washing off after two hours, raw eggs, multivitamin paste, onion and potato juice.. You can use essential oils to get rid of the oniony smell or smoky smell from jamaican black castor oil and ive read apple cider vinegar and baking soda is good to get rid of the oils and smells especially on the days you cant shampoo.. Please tell me your views thank you x

    • The inversion method isn’t going to do you much good if you only use it one day. Please follow the steps and procedures I itemized above for best results. You can use any oil you prefer, just try not to be too heavy-handed to avoid making a mess of your bedding! 😉 As far as other methods go, I can only speak as to the methods I have personally tried.

      Take care!

  65. Ananya

Is this inversion method safe and is it scientifically proven? Can I follow this without any hesitation about any side effects?

  66. Cristina

Hi, I cut my hair yesterday, and I’m really missing my long hair. Do you have to use the oils, or can you just massage your head? If that was already answered, just tell me, and I’ll ask someone else. Thank you.

    • Hi, hon. You don’t have to use oil, but I highly recommend it. You can check out my post here where I experimented with the inversion method WITHOUT oil. However, it is preferred (and safer) to follow the traditional inversion method. 😉

  67. Renee

Can this cause dandruff? And does the oil need to be heated, or does room temperature oil work just as well? Also, any tips on how to massage the scalp? Oils always rub off onto my hair before I can reach it.

    • I never got dandruff from using the inversion method. Yes, the oil needs to be heated. Please follow the directions (as stated in my blog post above) to achieve optimum hair growth results. To avoid damaging your scalp, massage your scalp only using the pads of your fingers. Also, use a nozzle tipped applicator bottle to keep oil on your scalp (and not on your hair). Hope that helps …

  68. Hi,
I haven’t started the inversion method yet but I am planning to the beginning of this week. Can I use main and tail shampoo and conditioner while doing this method or will that effect the growth?

  69. ShayizShayi,

Hi, I actually missed a day in the 7-day process. So is it okay if I do the method for 8 days consecutively for a month? Thanks.

  70. Lovie

My hair is thin. Will the inversion method help with thickening as well as hair growth?

    • No, the inversion method is primarily a hair growth method. But, if you are looking to thicken your hair as well, I would use castor oil. Massage your scalp with it 3-4 times a week for at least a month. With continued use, you should see slightly thicker strands. Hope that helps …

  71. Marissa

Hi, I read your article. I was wondering when doing the 7-day process if I needed to wash excess oil. Is it going to effect the process to wash excess oil out everyday over 7 days because my hair is greasy enough as it is as I wash it every three days. I have blonde, bleached hair, and I’m planning on growing it out. I just don’t want to be walking around with gross hair

    • Marissa, you can read my recommendations for your hair type in my post above. No one should shampoo their hair every day. You can just rinse with tepid water or co-wash. And, keep in mind, you shouldn’t be using gobs and gobs of oil. So, rinsing or co-washing should be more than enough until your normal wash day …

  72. Fly

Wow, very cool post, thank you so much. I’m definitely going to try this out! I just have one question: as soon as I’m done with the inversion (so, on day 7), will my hair grow normal again from that moment? Or does it stop growing for a few days/weeks?

  73. I accidentally covered my whole head/hair with oil is that bad? Will it affect the results😳

  74. maryem

You are amazing girl! Thank you for the advice, and I ‘ll start the inversion method today!!!!! I’ll let you know the results after 7 days xo xo !! 🙂

  75. Pari

I don’t wash my hair everyday with shampoo. Please tell me here what to do for washing.

    • You can just leave the oil in and wash your hair only when necessary like I did, co-wash, or rinse with water. It’s up to you! I provide guidelines for each hair type in my post above.

  76. Jenny

    Hi,

I did the method 4 months ago for 7 days, but I might have done it at a severe angle. I haven’t done it since. I am now suffering headaches most of the week. Is it because of the method? If it is, is there any way of solving this problem?

    Thanks

    • If you only did the inversion method once and are experiencing headaches months later, it sounds as though something else is going on. I would go to the doctor to check it out.

      • Jenny

        Hi,

Okay thank you and I have and it said it was about my sinuses as I have sinusitis but I was wondering if that’s caused because of the method? Also would my hair grow slower now?

        Thanks

      • The inversion method has nothing to do with sinusitis, hon. The potential side effects are listed above.

  77. Soha

So I have to shampoo 7 days in a row? 0; That sounds unhealthy for my hair.

  78. Alex

This is so amazing. Everyone should know about this. Starting tomorrow night! Thanks boo! 😘

  79. Kush

Can a bald person can use it ?

  80. Onielia

Can I use more than 1 natural oil (Olive Oil and Castor Oil)?

  81. Sandra

    Hi,

Are the effects of overusing it permanent? So would you suffer from headaches more for the rest of your life?

    Thank you

  82. Brooke

    Was my question answered?

    • I work, and I am also in grad school full time, so I can no longer answer questions I’ve already addressed. Because of my hectic schedule, it usually takes me 3-4 days to respond to comments.

  83. Kate

    Hi,

What are the effects of doing their inversion at a severe angle?

    Thank you

  84. Brooke

    Hi,

In the blog you say that if you over use the method your hair will have minimal hair growth. Does that mean minimal hair growth when you use the method again or or just generally your hair barely grows even without inversion method?

    Thanks

  85. I have certainly picked up something new from proper here.

  86. Asia

Hi. My last relaxer was August 27th, and I’m really considering going natural. I want to try the inversion method without the oil every 3 weeks as you stated. I don’t plan on doing the big chop at all … Just going to try to transition until I get a good length. I’m so excited!

  87. Michelle

Second day ✊im following all the steps 🙌 and I appreciate you for taking the time out to help others which is setting a great example for the younger generation💯👏.Thank you
